Ben's Run

27/Mar/2007 (Stevenage) - Dot Brown

Ben Millar, one of our members, is running the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April. Here is his story ......

London Marathon 2007

I am one of those superstitious fans. Chances are you will know what I mean, not washing socks after a win, lucky pants and so on. All these things start for a good reason. It is with some trepidation that as we approach the end of one of our best seasons for years I realise I am running the London Marathon for the first time.

If we do get to the play offs and win, will it be because of my marathon? Will I have to do it next year to ensure continuing success? In some ways I hope so because I’m doing it for another good cause – breast cancer research. Please help me to get York City into the Football League and to do well there. Together we can make a difference for our Club and for a cure.

PLUS, we also have a second member, Paul Hilton, runningtwo members running.

Paul says, "Here we go again folks, London marathon number three, but with a huge difference. This year looked pretty unlikely due to a tendon injury in my right foot so I gave charities a swerve as I didn't want to disappoint anyone if I hadn't started. Then a very special colleague and marathon entrant Eddie who I'd begun training with got the news that he wouldn't be running due to a serious life threatening illness which he is about to begin fighting. As Eddie had already started raising money for The Stroke Association on behalf of another BBC colleague, it was the least I could to take it on and finish the job. You sponsorship would be appreciated as this is very special for me as I'll be putting a smile on someone's face who's not only missed out on the greatest show of all, but who's also about to embark on a journey that none of us ever want to contemplate".
